Best Shot Foundation Internship
Description of the Position
Best Shot Foundation is offering qualified students and recent graduates in the D.C. area an internship opportunity to help build a grassroots movement to fight childhood pneumonia. Hidden to most Americans, childhood pneumonia kills nearly 1.6 million children younger than five every year, more than any other disease.
Successful applicants will work with the founder and former executive director of the Save Darfur Coalition, get experience building a national campaign, and receive a $100 weekly stipend (for full time work, prorated for part-time work). In addition, interns will have the opportunity to attend events and seminars to help further their knowledge of global health issues.
The Best Shot Foundation is a small nonprofit providing a substantive learning and professional experience for interns. We are conveniently located in downtown D.C. directly across from the Metro Center metro stop. Interns will be introduced into a welcoming work environment and will play an integral role in fighting a terrible killer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research potential partner agencies
- Help create outreach materials – emails and documents – to recruit partner agencies to the fight against childhood pneumonia
- Research foundation and funding opportunities
- Help write grant proposals
- Create and edit internal and external communications
- Conduct market and demographic research
- Manage social media
- Perform administrative activities for the organization
Description of the Organization:
The Best Shot Foundation started in April of 2009 under the direction of David Rubenstein, the founder and former Executive Director of the Save Darfur Campaign. After seeing the success Save Darfur had across the nation, David saw an opportunity to mobilize Americans around another pressing international crisis, childhood pneumonia.
Pneumonia kills more children worldwide than malaria, the measles, and HIV/AIDS combined. The young lives that are lost to this disease fall disproportionately on the underprivileged children of the world’s developing nations. More tragic still is how little attention is given to this deadly disease. Most Americans are simply unaware that pneumonia kills more than 1.5 million young children each year.
