Wear Blue Jeans on World Pneumonia Day

Who: You
What: Wear Blue Jeans to Work
When: November 12th
Why:  Support the Fight Against Pneumonia

Wear Blue Jeans on World Pneumonia Day is an easy, effective way to demonstrate our fight against pneumonia – the deadliest disease for children under the age of 5.  No parent should face the unspeakable agony of losing a child unnecessarily. Yet it happens 5,500 times every day because of pneumonia.

Wear Jeans. Donate. Save Lives.

Pneumonia is easy to treat and inexpensive to beat:

  • Experts estimate that with proper care and treatment, 1 million children could be saved every year.
  • The treatment for pneumonia is a prompt, full course of antibiotics.
  • Antibiotics cost less than a $1 per dose.
  • A gift of $8 can diagnose and treat a child suffering from pneumonia
  • A gift of $20 can protect a child against the two deadliest strains of pneumonia. The pneumococcal conjugate vaccine and the Hib (Haemophilus influenzae type b) vaccine are ways of preventing pneumonia that are common in the developed world.

Pneumonia is a public health crisis:

  • Worldwide, pneumonia kills the most children under 5.
  • An estimated 98% of children who die of pneumonia live in developing countries.
  • Only an estimated 1 of every 5 children with symptoms of pneumonia receives life-saving antibiotics. Without antibiotics, if pneumonia worsens, a child might have to undergo a painful surgery, or, tragically, die.

Wearing Blue Jeans on World Pneumonia Day helps us save young lives:

  • Wearing blue jeans is an easy and effective way to physically show a united fight against pneumonia.
  • Wearing blue jeans is a commemorative effort for the millions of children who struggle to breathe when they suffer from pneumonia.
  • Participating in Wearing Blue Jeans on World Pneumonia Day will allow you to generate much-needed discussion about the fight against pneumonia.
